Principles

While educating livestock guarding dogs (LGD), breeders create optimal conditions for the hereditary traits of the dogs entrusted to them to fully develop. Thereby the protection efficiency of LGDs as well as their social compatibility play an important role. LGDs are socialised at three levels: with humans, livestock and the pack of dogs. For this network of relationships to develop, the breeders have to provide a suitable environment on their farms and build a trusting relationship with their LGDs. The bond to humans neither weakens the bond to livestock nor the dogs’ defensive behaviour by any means, but LGDs become more manageable. During their entire education LGDs are encouraged and not deprived. Furthermore, the various development stages of LGDs are specifically taken into account.
